The source of your Hidden Saboteurs
Saboteurs develop during our childhood to protect and help you cope with the real and imagined threats that we all experience as children, the real and imagined threats to our physical and emotional survival. Think of them as a coping mechanism.
As an adult, you no longer need them, but by this time they have become unseen occupants of your mind. Your Saboteurs have patterns of feeling, reacting and thinking which become soft-coded into your brain through neural pathways. When these neural pathways are activated, you are "hijacked" by your Saboteurs and think, feel and act using their patterns.
The Lies Saboteurs Tell You
Saboteurs will tell you that they are good for you. That they have helped you to achieve all that you have achieved so far.
There is an element of truth in that your Saboteurs have used Negative Reinforcement to PUSH you to improve and achieve through guilt, blame, anxiety, fear, shame etc. However, you can achieve so much more when you are PULLED by Positive Reinforcement through your inherent feelings of creativity, curiosity, compassion, love for yourself and others, and love of contribution and self expression, making you less stressed and far happier.

The Judge, The Master Saboteur
The Judge is the Saboteur that afflicts us all. It's that negative voice in your head that finds fault with yourself, others and circumstances. It beats you up repeatedly over your mistakes and shortcomings, wakes you up in the middle of the night worrying, warning you over and again about future risks and fixates on the faults of others or what's wrong with your life. The Judge not only causes much of your disappointment, anger, regret, guilt, shame and anxiety, it also activates your other Saboteurs.
Focusing on the positive and pleasant in an extreme way. Avoiding difficult and unpleasant tasks and conflicts.
Anxiety-based need to take charge and control situations and people’s actions to one’s own will. High anxiety and impatience when that is not possible.
Dependent on constant performance and achievement for self-respect and self-validation. Latest achievement quickly discounted, needing more.
Intense and exclusive focus on the rational processing of everything, including relationships. Can be perceived as uncaring, unfeeling, or intellectually arrogant.
Continuous intense anxiety about all the dangers and what could go wrong. Vigilance that can never rest.
Indirectly tries to gain acceptance and affection by helping, pleasing, rescuing, or flattering others. Loses sight of own needs and becomes resentful as a result.
Restless, constantly in search of greater excitement in the next activity or constant busyness. Rarely at peace or content with the current activity.
Perfectionism and a need for order and organisation taken too far. Anxious trying to make too many things perfect.
Emotional and temperamental as a way to gain attention and affection. An extreme focus on internal feelings, particularly painful ones. Martyr streak.
Don't My Saboteurs Help Me?
Your Hidden Saboteurs would love you to believe that and do all they can to make you think that way. For example, the Avoider will tell you that no good comes out of conflict and someone needs to be the peacemaker. The Controller will tell you that without it you can't get much done and that you need to push people.
All of the Saboteurs will tell you why they are good for you.
However, the negative emotions that they cause are like pain - they are helpful as a quick alert.
Just like if you put your hand on a hot stove, you feel the pain and take your hand away, so it is with negative emotions - they are there as a signal to take corrective action.
Instead, most of us have learned to stay frustrated, unhappy, stressed which means that you are not capable of finding the best solution, which you can from the Sage part of your brain.
